Frequently Asked Questions About Sober Living

Our goal at Eudaimonia Recovery Homes is to provide the highest-quality sober living programs possible while giving you all the tools you need to live a sober and fulfilling life on your own. Understandably, you may have a few questions about our various locations and services. Please review this list of our most frequently asked questions and don’t hesitate to give us a call if you need additional information or have specific concerns that are not mentioned here.

What is the difference between a sober living house and a halfway house?

Sober living homes provide a safe, substance-free environment with recovery-focused programming to reinforce long-term maintenance of sobriety. Residents are generally allowed to stay as long as needed. Conversely, halfway houses are typically government funded and only allow clients to stay for a specified amount of time. Is Eudaimonia a treatment center?

No. Eudaimonia Recovery Homes provides safe, structured sober living homes for individuals in recovery, but we are not an addiction treatment center. We do, however, provide additional recovery support services in addition to our sober living homes and programs for men and women.

Does Eudaimonia provide counseling?

Yes. Eudaimonia counselors are always available to speak to residents about any personal issues they’re facing. Our counselors have the necessary experience and qualifications to help you resolve issues as you work through your sober living program.

Does Eudaimonia offer couples sober living?

Eudaimonia does not offer transitional housing specifically for couples, but we do operate several gender-specific sober living houses for men and women that are located in the same neighborhood. Couples enrolled in our sober living program at the same time will enjoy convenient sober living spaces within walking distance of one another.

Will I be drug tested?

Eudaimonia residents are all required to participate in regular drug and alcohol testing at least twice a week. Tests occur approximately 80 hours apart. We test for more than 70 substances and obtain immediate results. Families and residents will have website access to test results 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.

Does each sober living house have a house manager?

Yes. All of our sober living houses have house managers that live on-site. Our sober living apartment complex for men in Austin, Texas is staffed 24/7.

What kind of recovery support services are available?

We offer a wealth of recovery support services, including our Map Support ProgramThree Phase ProgramSupport Employment Volunteering Program, and Alcohol & Core Drug Screening Toxicology Reporting. We also provide outpatient treatment and therapeutic services.

Are residents required to attend 12-step meetings?

Yes. As a Eudaimonia resident, you are required to attend the set number of 12-step meetings determined by your recovery programming.

Do Eudaimonia sober living homes accommodate pregnant women?

Yes, we happily accommodate pregnant women, but we cannot accommodate children. Once the baby is born, the mother can no longer live in an ERH sober living home with her child.

How much is a room?

We offer a wide range of room and pricing options to best meet the needs of our diverse clientele. If you’d like additional pricing information for one of our sober living homes or apartment units, please contact our admissions team.

What forms of payment does Eudaimonia accept?

Currently, we accept payment in the form of credit cards, debit cards, personal checks, money orders, and cashier’s checks. Rent is collected on a monthly basis.

How long does the application process take?

Once you have completed and submitted your application, we will review your information and a member of our admissions team will contact you directly. During normal business hours (Monday through Friday) we can finalize and approve your application for admission within 24 hours. Applications received on the weekend will be processed on Monday.

Do I have to go to detox or rehab before I can enroll?

Our sober living programs are designed for men and women who have already completed a detox program and a drug and alcohol rehab program. This helps clients establish a firm foundation that they can continue building upon while completing a sober living program.

How long do I have to be sober to move in?

We require that residents maintain their sobriety for at least 30 days before moving into one of our sober living homes.

How long can I stay?

You may stay as long as you need to. If our staff believes you are ready to live sober on your own back at home, we will encourage you to do so and provide the support and resources you need to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Can I leave at any time?

Yes, you may. We prefer a 30-day notice for departure if you choose to leave one of our sober living homes.

What happens if I relapse?

If a client relapses while living in a Eudaimonia sober living home, the incidence is handled on a case-by-case basis.

Can I smoke cigarettes in a Eudaimonia sober living home?

No tobacco of any kind or vaping is allowed inside any Eudaimonia sober living home. Smoking is allowed in designated outdoor areas, such as the backyard and porch of the property, but all cigarette butts must be disposed of appropriately in the butt bucket/can.

Will I have a roommate?

Most of our residents share a room with several other roommates, but if you would like a private room, we may be able to accommodate your request. Please speak with a member of our admissions team to learn more about availability.

What rules do I have to follow?

All of our residents are expected to adhere to the community rules and standards set forth by Eudaimonia Recovery Homes. These rules include abstaining from all drug and alcohol use, maintaining the requirements and goals of all recovery program, and avoiding romantic relationships with other residents or staff members. Each resident will receive a full list of guidelines and commitments upon enrollment, but a condensed version is available here.

Do I have to work while I’m enrolled in a Eudaimonia sober living program?

Eudaimonia requires that residents are actively seeking employment, are employed, are volunteering, or are enrolled in school throughout the course of their sober living program.

Does Eudaimonia provide any employment assistance to residents?

Yes. Our Support Employment Volunteering Program (SEV) is designed to help residents find and apply for jobs. Clients will learn how to use various resources to locate employment opportunities, update or create a resume, complete and send in applications, and prepare for job interviews. Our SEV program also assists clients in locating local volunteer opportunities and establishing or pursuing their educational goals.

Will there be employment opportunities near my sober living house?

Yes. Each of our sober living homes is located in a highly populated area with plenty of employment opportunities nearby. Many may even be within walking distance of the home.

Can I stay away from the house overnight?

Yes. Depending on your progress through the phase program, you may be awarded one or several overnight passes. These are typically awarded to residents who have shown exceptional progress and have completed certain objectives of their phased programming. Can I have visitors?

Visitors are welcome at all Eudaimonia sober living homes but they must be approved in advance by a house manager before they can enter the home.

Are cell phones allowed?

Yes, they are. There are no community rules prohibiting the use of cell phones. The decision to bring one is for you and your family to decide.

Can I bring my vehicle?

Yes. We have convenient parking available for vehicles at all of our sober living locations. We do ask that you follow city parking laws when utilizing available spaces.

Can I bring my laptop or tablet?

Yes. Laptops and tablets are allowed in our sober living houses and apartments. We broadcast Wi-Fi throughout the entirety of each community.

Can I bring my pet with me?

Yes. Cats, dogs, caged animals, and fish are permitted in our pet-friendly sober living apartments for men in Austin, Texas. Our pet-friendly units are all located in a secluded area near a dog park and residents with similar pets are paired together. Eudaimonia does not allow the following types pets on the property:

  • Pets that are larger than 30 pounds
  • Pets that are younger than two years old
  • Cats that are not declawed
  • Pets that are not spayed or neutered

Does Eudaimonia provide Wi-Fi and cable?

Yes. All of our men’s and women’s sober living homes are equipped with Wi-Fi and cable for the convenience of our residents.

Does Eudaimonia provide meals for residents?

No. Eudaimonia residents are expected to purchase and prepare their own food for meals. We do, however, provide all cooking utensils and appliances needed to prepare those meals.

Is there a bus route nearby?

Yes. All of our communities are conveniently located on a local bus route. Other forms of public transportation are also available in certain locations such as the Austin MetroRail and Houston MetroRail..

Are there universities nearby?

Yes. All of our sober living homes are located in well-populated areas with a variety of educational institutions nearby. These may include state, private, or community colleges.
