The relationships our clients develop with our staff members is a large part of the recovery experience at Eudaimonia Recovery Homes. In this blog, we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Penaflor, one of our House Managers in Austin. Adrian took some time to answer a few questions so you could get to know him and better understand his role at our sober living homes.
→ I’m a house manager at Eudamonia Recovery Homes in Austin. I’m blessed with the opportunity to help others in the community, whether that be a client or other members of the staff.
→ The most enjoyable part of being a House Manager is getting to work with newcomers in our under 30-day units. I’m a drug addict and alcoholic just like these men. I can relate to them with their struggles and I’m able to share my experiences in sobriety to help give these men hope in theirs.
→ Accountability. Caring. Fellowship.
→ I love breakfast for dinner! Biscuits and gravy is one of my favorites, but that probably wouldn’t be the healthiest choice. I think I would go with a veggie omelet, some toasted bread, and some fresh fruit.
→ I would like the chance to be Dr. Strange.
→ There are actually two that come to mind, and the first is how important it is to be honest. I wouldn’t have the life I have today if I had kept lying to myself and others. I needed the help of my fellow addicts/alcoholics and to take their direction. I couldn’t have done this alone.
Another would be the importance of being of service to others. It was because of others’ selfless acts that I received the proper treatment I needed when I was unable to help myself. Today, I get to be of service to others and it’s a true blessing.
→ Don’t give up and don’t lose faith. Get honest with yourself, do the work, and find a group of friends within the fellowship that will bring you the truth, not what you want to hear. Reach out to others during good and bad times and go help someone else!
