Table of contents
Houston is a city well known for its vibrant cultural, arts, entertainment, and dining scenes, and there is never a better time to experience them all together than while celebrating Pride Month this June. There are many sober activities happening in and around the Houston area during the 44th Annual Pride festival that can help you meet new friends and enjoy social experiences in recovery while celebrating and supporting those in the LGBTQ community.
The 44th Annual Pride Celebration Fair, Parade, and Events
The 44th Annual Official Houston Pride LGBTQ Celebration will take place downtown at Houston City Hall, 901 Bagby Street, on Saturday, June 25, 2022. This will be the first celebration since 2019 due to Covid restrictions and will feature live music, DJs, dozens of food and merchandise vendors, performers, and exhibit booths, and will run from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. followed by the parade at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $5, and children ages 12 and under are free [1].

Enjoy local entertainment, specially curated activities, an intention-setting group, local food, and a sober spritz bar all created in partnership with local LGBTQ businesses. Benefit Others and Yourself by Participating in the Pride Run
Regular exercise can be instrumental for people while in treatment and also during recovery, and many rehab centers and sober living communities try to incorporate exercise into their programs for this reason. Exercise has been shown to release the same endorphins that produce the “high” that those in recovery once associated with their abused substance prior to treatment [2].
The annual Pride Run is a 5k/10k race and 5k walk that also features a Charity Challenge, and participants in the race are invited to choose a ‘Reason2Race’ when registering. You may select one of the race’s several partner charities or can opt to race for any charity of your choosing. An optional synchronized “Rainbow Color Throw” color dusting will take place ten minutes before the Pride Run begins. When you sign up for the Pride Run, you can participate either as an individual or start a team and invite your friends to join you.
Volunteers are also always needed and welcome, and those helping out with the Pride Run will be a part of a great opportunity to support charitable causes and meet new, like-minded people, so consider recruiting a couple of friends to volunteer with you to get the full experience of the event.
Registration for race participants is $30 in advance, and tickets include an official Pride Run shirt, race number bib, medal, Rainbow Throw dust packet, and entry to the race after-party celebration.
When and Where:
Saturday, June 25, 2022
The race begins at Hennessey Park in downtown Houston. Volunteer check-in begins at 6:00 a.m., race check-in begins at 7:00 a.m., and the Pride Run itself will begin at 8:30 a.m. [3]

Attend a Local Sporting Event as a Sober Spectator
Houston is home to five professional major league teams: the Houston Astros (MLB), Houston Texans (NFL), Houston Rockets (NBA), Houston Dynamo FC (MLS), and Houston Dash (NWSL). Pre-game celebrations have long been a part of sports fans’ culture, and have generally been associated with drinking or partying before the game begins. However, due to the increasing popularity of the “Sober Curious” movement, many people are now considering alcohol-free activities such as tailgating while also supporting their favorite sports teams.
Try Your Hand at the Sober Recreation Committee Summer Golf Classic
Show off your skills at the golf tournament or play a friendly game of ‘closest to the hole’ with an air cannon that launches golf balls over 300 yards. Registration begins at noon, and a fajita dinner and prize raffles will follow the golf tournament.

There are nearly 2,500 regular Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and other recovery meetings held in different locations throughout Houston and its surrounding cities for those who want to make a connection with new sober friends. Not only can these meetings help you become more open about your struggles and support you in your own recovery, but they may also introduce you to more like-minded people who can join you in some of the sober activities in Houston listed above [4].
