About Sober Living

Resisting relapse during early recovery becomes extremely difficult when you return to a harmful living environment. A harmful living environment is comprised of the circumstances or conditions surrounding a person in recovery. This may include violence, co-dependency and enabling behaviors, favorable attitudes toward addictive substances, isolation, or peer substance abuse. The risk of relapse is already present in early recovery, but it becomes even greater when you return to this type of living environment—even if you’re highly motivated.

Sober living homes offer a substance-free setting that provides helpful structure and support for individuals who are transitioning into independent life after substance abuse treatment. We also offer a MAP Support Program for sober living clients, to provide personalized peer recovery support.

Sober living programs at Eudaimonia incorporate a three-phase recovery program, which rewards residents with increased privileges as they progress through their recovery program. As a resident, you will gain increased privileges after a certain amount of time and as you complete certain recovery tasks.

All of our support staff can offer personal insight into living out the principles of the 12-step program during early recovery. On-site house managers and regular drug tests also keep residents accountable for their behaviors while residing in a sober living home.

What Is a Sober Living House?

Sober living homes, ¾ houseshalfway houses, and transitional houses are all terms that are often used interchangeably to describe recovery residences. These group homes provide a supportive place for individuals to transition from a lifestyle of addiction to one of sobriety, responsibility, and continued recovery.

A sober living home offers a safe, comfortable and substance-free environment in which people can thrive. These sober communities are gender-specific, serving men, women and LGBTQ individuals and may be either apartments or residential homes. A sober living home is also designed around recovery, life skills, and ancillary outpatient treatment services. Residents will continue their recovery journey with the following services provided by Eudaimonia sober living homes:

As you can see, a Eudaimonia sober living home is much more than just a sober place to live and sleep. These programs provide all the supportive resources you need to maintain lifelong sobriety.

More About Sober Living Homes

Benefits of Sober Living

Living in a sober home during the early recovery stage comes with some distinct advantages. As a Eudaimonia resident, you’ll have access to a number of support services while staying at one of our sober living homes. Here are just a few of the main advantages.

Accountability: It is imperative that you have the opportunity to live in a safe, healthy environment that is conducive to healing. At Eudaimonia, we accomplish this with regular drug and alcohol testing. By making it difficult to conceal any rule-breaking, we ensure all residents have a safe and sober place to continue living out their recovery goals after rehab.

Recovery Support: Early recovery is a very vulnerable time, making relapse a real risk. In fact, relapse is most common within the first 90 days after completion of a primary treatment program. Because returning home immediately after completing a rehab program may prove to be more challenging than expected, our sober living homes provide time for you to develop a stable footing in your sobriety before living on your own. Our recovery support program is comprised of a peer-led support program, a three-phase sober living program, employment, and education assistance and alcohol and drug screening to provide ample support and help you avoid relapse in the early stages of recovery.

Career and Academic Support: Substance abuse may have negatively impacted your career or education, but we offer advantageous employment assistance and academic planning to help you get back on track. Our Support Employment Volunteering program is a group session held three days a week. The first hour of the class focuses on chemical dependency education, life skills, and relapse prevention. The second half of the course provides assistance with resume building, interviewing skills and employment and volunteering research

Peer Support: One of the most distinct advantages of sober living homes is that you’re living in a residence where people are just like you, fighting to recover from the struggles of substance abuse. A Eudaimonia sober living home provides mutual support, understanding, and friendship at a time when you need it most. Many of these relationships may even become long-lasting, rewarding friendships for months or years to come. The Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book says it best: “Life will take on new meaning. To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends—this is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it. Frequent contact with newcomers and with each other is the bright spot of our lives.”

Building Foundations: After inpatient treatment, it’s essential that you get the support you need. A sober living home reduces the risk of relapse by helping you build a solid recovery foundation comprised of positive peer support, life skills training and specific measures to ensure accountability. This includes having a sober and stable living environment in which to live.
